Please join the Garden City Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Meeting and Luncheon Program next Wednesday, March 25, 11:30 a.m. at the Garden city Hotel. Donald X. Clavin, Town of Hempstead Receiver of Taxes will serve as the keynote speaker. Election of proposed Officers and Director Candidates for forthcoming terms on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will also take place.

The Chamber is pleased to welcome Don Clavin to offer a presentation on “Town Related Matters along with Property Tax Issues.” Elected by the Town of Hempstead’s residents as Receiver of taxes in 2001, Don Clavin was elected overwhelmingly again in 2003 and then in 2007 by the highest margin ever. During his tenure, Don has made a commitment to enhance service while being fiscally responsible. Among his many initiatives are the two satellite tax offices which were created in Lawrence and Hicksville in addition to extending office hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the tax payment seasons for the convenience of taxpayers.

Clavin uses Hempstead Town’s Mobile Town Hall to collect taxes and address the concerns of town residents. He has also implemented an email reminder program to help taxpayers make timely payments. Taxpayers now have the convenience of paying their tax bill by credit card or e-check, online or by telephone. Don also created the first taxpayer drivethru payment window on Long Island. All of these initiatives have been completed and operate at no additional cost to the taxpayers!

One of Don’s most noteworthy accomplishments is the redesign of the tax bills; the most important facet, the provision for residents of a breakdown of how their tax dollars are being spent! Printed in-house, the new bills are much easier to read and understand. These are among the many initiatives implemented by Don Clavin that make the Town of Hempstead Tax Office more accessible to the Town’s residents.
